Strong Magnets for "Strong" motors. These magnets are simply the best magnets available. And, they are the perfect fit for "Strong" motors. The N50 magnets are the highest strength magnets being sold, and the N45SH are the highest strength magnets with an operating temperature limit of 150° C. Curved magnets are the latest addition, for those who want the ultimate. When comparing magnets look at the number after the N ##. That is a measure of the strength of the magnet. Any letters following the strength indicate temperature limits where some permanent loss of magnetic strength will occur. If no letters are present as in N50, the limit is 80° C. If it is N45H the limit is 120 ° C, and if it says N45SH the limit is 150° C! For most flyers N50 is the best choice. They are good up to 80° C, and that is 176° F which is way hotter than a good motor should run. That would hurt if you touched it. (Most people can't hold a finger on anything much over 150° F.) If your magnets are going near that temperature either you have some kind of failure or you are pushing your motor way too hard, and will soon let the smoke out if you haven't already. So who would want an SH magnet with a temperature limit of over 350°F? Well some builders are reporting minor changes in performance after hours of running. Some suspect, because "cogging" is reduced, the magnets have slightly weakened. Frankly, no one knows. If you think your magnets are not holding there strength try the SH's. Just a few months ago N45 magnets were the best you could get. Then came N45H's and soon after N50's. N45SH's are the latest available, but again for most flyers N50 is the best choice. Here are the recommended magnet sizes: GBx 22.7 mm stator motors with Custom GBx cans can use 5X4X2 rectangular magnets or STRONG curved magnets for GBx Cans. 22.7 mm stator motors with standard GB cans -- 5X5X1 or a set of curved magnets for 22.7 mm stator motors 20 mm stator motors--5X4X1 or 5X5X.9 for expert builders (very tight air gap), 5X5X.75 for first time builders, or a set of curved magnets for 20 mm stator motors. 20 mm stator motors with the cans normally used on 22.7 mm stator motors--- can use the thicker 2 mm magnets. 5X5X2, or to save a little weight 5X4X2's.
