STRONG Magnet Spacers

Selecting the correct spacer:

Magnet spacers are identified with a combination of numbers and letters.  (The original STRONG Spacers did not have a number, but are the same as “22” spacers.)

  • “22” spacers are for standard cans used with 22.7 mm stator motors and 5X5X1 magnets.
  • “20” spacers are for standard cans used with 20 mm stator motors and 5X4X1, 5X4X0.9 or 5X4X0.75 magnets.
  • “22C” spacers are for standard cans used with 22.7 mm stator motors and Strong MCS22 or MCD22 curved magnets.
  • “20C” spacers are for standard cans used with 20 mm stator motors and STRONG MCS20 or MCD20 curved magnets.
  • GBx spacers are for GBx custom can motors and 5X4X2 or 10X4X2 magnets.
  • GBxC spacers are for GBx custom can motors and STRONG  MCSG22 or MCDG22 curved magnets
  • K Spacers are for Komodo 278 V2 motors
  • K3
  • K7-10 Spacers are for Komodo 257 motors with 10 magnets
  • K7-14 Spacers are for Komodo 257 motors with 14 magnets
  • K7-16 Spacers are for Komodo 257 motors with 16 magnets

Instructions:

Some STRONG Magnet Spacers have a machine screw handle, others have a center tube.  Both require some assembly to make them ready to use.  If the spacer came with a tube, just insert the tube in the center hole.  If additional support is required apply CA or epoxy where the tube passes through.  If the spacer came with a machine screw, thread the machine screw into the spacer from the plastic side.  Screw it in until the spacer sits at mid depth in the can.

Wiping your fingers and the inside of the can with alcohol or lacquer thinner will reduce the chance of a poor glue bond.  The plastic portion is Acetal and most CA glues will not stick well to the plastic, however CA will stick to the can.  It is best to remove the spacer before applying glue.  If you must apply glue with the spacer in the can be very careful not to get glue near or around the spacer tips.

Insert the spacer in the can with the center “handle” facing out.  Now install every other magnet, remove the spacer and apply glue. Then repeat for the opposite polarity magnets.  That reduces the chance of putting two like polarity magnets next to each other.  Some builders prefer to insert all the magnets, alternating polarity, before applying glue.   Either way, installing precisely spaced magnets is easy and quick!
