Using STRONG Hubs and
Cans
If you do
not plan to use the hub as a propsaver, I recommend you only use 1 set
screw. Actually even if using it as a
prop saver, it is recommended that the hub-can assembly be secured to the shaft
with one screw and the other
just inserted and tightened enough to keep from falling out. The idea is to position the hub and hold it parallel
to the shaft just as it was when soldered.
If it is supported on two screws it can wobble around and get
loose. The shaft should be pushed tight
on one side. Pre-soldered hub-can
assemblies were soldered with the hub positioned by the setscrew. The can should always be secured to the shaft
using a setscrew or machine screw in that same hole. That will provide a very true running can.
When
soldering your own hub-can assemblies, snug the hub on the shaft using one
setscrew hole. Then solder the joint and
always secure the can to the shaft using the same hole. Leave the opposite hole empty or use it for a
propsaver, but do not try to use it to secure the shaft.
